*This tutorial was created with Paint Shop Pro 9
*Do not deselect until instructed to do so
*Settings will remain the same as last used unless otherwise noted
PREPARATION

1. Launch Paint Shop Pro and open the graphic

2. Shift+D to duplicate it

3. Close the original

4. Image>Resize Settings:
No greater than 350 pixels on the largest side
Resize using: checked
Smart Size is selected
Lock aspect ratio: checked
Resize all layers is checked

5. Adjust>Sharpness>Sharpen if necessary

Add the colors as you choose them to the Swatch Palette






6. Activate the Dropper Tool (E)

7. Left click a dark color in the graphic to set the Foreground and Stroke Color in the
Materials Palette

8. Right click a lighter shade of the same color to set the Background and Fill Color in
the Materials Palette

9. Set the Background and Fill Properties to Gradient Settings:









BACKGROUND BORDER

1. Image>Add Borders Settings:
5 pixels
Symmetric is checked
Color is any not in the edges of the image

2. Activate the Magic Wand Tool Settings:
Mode: Add (Shift)
Match mode: RGB Value
Tolerance: 20
Use all layers is not checked
Contiguous is checked
Feather: 0
Anti-alias is checked
Inside is selected

3. Select the border

4. Activate the Flood Fill Tool (F) Settings:
Match mode: None
Use all layers is not checked
Blend mode: Normal
Opacity: 100

5. Right click the canvas to flood fill it with the background gradient

6. Selections>Invert

7. Effects>3D Effects>Cutout settings:
Vertical: 0
Horizontal: 0
Opacity: 70
Blur" 30
Color: a darker shade of the dark gradient color
Add this color to the Swatch Palette as well
Fill interior with color is not checked

8. Selections>Select None

9. Image>Add Borders Settings:
20 pixels
Color is white

10. Activate the Magic Wand Tool

11. Select the border

12. Effects>Plugins>Simple - Left/Right Wrap

13. Selections>Select None

14. Select both of the white borders using the Magic Wand Tool

15. Activate the Flood Fill Tool (F)

16. Right click the canvas to flood fill the selections with the background gradient

17. Effects>Texture Effects>Blinds Settings:
Width: 5
Opacity: 45
Color is the same you used for the cutout
Horizontal is checked
Light from left is checked

18. Selections>Invert

19. Effects>3D Effects>Drop Shadow Settings:
Vertical: 2
Horizontal: 2
Opacity: 100
Blur: 2
Color: same as the cutout color
Shadow on new layer is not checked

20. Effects>3D Effects>Drop Shadow Settings:
Vertical: -2 (negative)
Horizontal: -2 (negative)

21. Selections>Select None

22. Image>Add Borders Settings:
5 pixels
Color is any not in the previous border

23. Activate the Magic Wand Tool

24. Select the border

25. Activate the Flood Fill Tool (F)

26. Right click the selection to flood fill it with the background gradient

27. Selection>Invert

28. Effects>3D Effects>Cutout

29. Selections>Select None

30. Image>Add Borders Settings:
25 pixels
Color is any not in the last border

31. Activate the Magic Wand Tool

32. Select the border

33. Activate the flood Fill Tool (F)

34. Right click the selection to flood fill it with the background gradient

35. Effects>Texture Effects>Blinds settings:
Horizontal is not checked

36. Effects>3D Effects>Inner Bevel Settings:









37. Selections>Select None

38. Image>Resize Settings:
No greater than 350 pixels on the largest side

39. Adjust>Sharpness>Sharpen if necessary

40. Layers>Promote Background Layer

41. Image>Canvas Size Settings:
Width: 2,400 or your preference
Height: Original Dimension shown + 20 Pixels
Lock aspect ratio is not checked
Left center placement arrow is clicked

42. Layers>New Raster Layer

43. Layers>Arrange>Send to Bottom

44. Change the Background and Fill Properties to Color

45. Right click the canvas to flood fill it with the background color

46. Layers>New Raster Layer

47. Left click the canvas to flood fill it with the foreground color

48. Lower the opacity of this layer to 40-60% so you get a mix of both colors

49. Layers>Merge>Merge Down

Working on the bottom layer

50. Effects>Texture  Effects>Texture Settings:









51. Effects>Texture Effects>Blinds Settings:
Width: 5
Opacity: 45-70 depending on the image
Horizontal is not checked
Light from left top is checked
Color is the dark gradient color

52. Layers>Merge>Merge Visible

53. Layer>New Raster Layer

54. Layers>Arrange>Bring to Top

55. Add your credit(s)

56. Layer>Merge>Merge All (Flatten)

57. File>Save As A JPEG and as the letter background
