goldfoil or Silver-Foil pattern
Put into the "My PSP" Patterns folder

gold and silver Captured elements
*SSCapturedGlass preset
Double click the preset to add it to the plugin
*
SSCapturedTextureNoisePreset
Double click the preset to add it to the plugin

Corel_11_069 - preset shape
Put into the "My PSP" Preset Shapes folder

This tutorial was created using Paint Shop Pro 9
*Do not deselect until instructed to do so
*Settings will remain the same as last used unless otherwise noted
PREPARATION

1. Launch Paint Shop Pro and open the graphic

2. Shift+D to duplicate it

3. Close the original

4. Activate the Dropper Tool (E)

5. Right click a darker color in the graphic to set the Background and Fill color in the Materials Palette

6. Save it to the Swatch Palette












7. Left click a medium shade of the same color or a complimentary medium color to set the Foreground
and Stroke Color in the Materials Palette

8. Save it to the Swatch Palette

9. Decide if you want gold or silver accents and open that element set in Paint Shop Pro

10. Shift+D to duplicate it

11. Close the original

12. Minimize the element set

Working with the graphic

13. Image>Resize Settings:
No greater than 400 pixels on the largest side
Resample using: checked
Smart Size is selected
Maintain original print size is not checked
Lock aspect ratio: checked
Resize all layers is checked

14. Adjust>Sharpness>Sharpen if necessary

15. Activate the Selection Tool (S) Settings:
Selection type: Rectangle
Mode: Replace
Feather: 0
Anti-alias is checked

16. Select a strip of the graphic about 20 pixels in width and 200 pixels in height

17. Edit>Copy

18. Selections>Select None

19. File>Save As A JPEG and as the "main graphic"

20. Minimize it

FRAME ACCENTS

1. Edit>Paste As New Image

2. Layers>Merge>Merge All (Flatten)

3. Image>Resize Settings:
Width: 20 pixels
Height: 200 pixels
Resample using: Smart Size is selected
Maintain original print size is not checked
Lock aspect ratio is not checked
Resize all layers: is checked

4. File>Save As A JPEG and as the "frame accent"

5. Minimize it

BACKGROUND PATTERN

Switch between colors and patterns in the Materials Palette by using these 3 buttons




1. Set the Foreground and Stroke Properties in the Materials Palette to Color

2. Set the Background and Fill Properties in the Materials Palette to Color

3. File>New Settings:
Width: 200 pixels
Height: 200 pixels
Raster Background is clicked
Transparent is checked
All other settings at default

4. Activate the Flood Fill Tool (F) Settings:
Match mode: None
Use all layers is checked
Blend mode: Normal
Opacity: 100
In PSP 9 Sample Merged is selected

5. Left click the canvas to flood fill it with the foreground color

6. Adjust>Add/Remove Noise>Add Noise Settings:
Gaussian is clicked
Noise: 20%
Monochrome is checked

7. Adjust>Sharpness>Sharpen

8. Layers>New Raster Layer

9. Right click the canvas to flood fill it with the background color

10. Effects>Plugins>Cybia>ScreenWorks - Pixel Shade Settings:
Mode: 0

11. Selections>Select All

12. Selections>Modify>Select Color Range Settings:
Tolerance 30-75
Depends on the color you used but all of the color (not black) boxes should be
Softness 0
Subtract color range is clicked
Reference color: Black






13. Click OK

14. Adjust>Add/Remove Noise>Add Noise






15. Selections>Invert

16. Edit>Clear






17. Selections>Select None  

18. Layers>Merge>Merge All (Flatten)

19. File>Save As A JPEG and as the "background pattern"

20. Minimize it

INNER FRAME

1. Change the Background and Fill Properties in the Materials Palette to Pattern Settings:
"background pattern"
Angle: 0
Scale: 100

2. Maximize the "main graphic"

3. Layers>New Raster Layer

4. Right click the canvas to flood fill it with the background pattern

5. Effects>Plugins>Greg's Factory Output Vol. II - Pool Shadow Settings:
All sliders at 50 except
Intensity: 58-68
Lightness: 128
You may need to adjust the intensity slider depending on the color you are using












6. Change the Background and Fill Properties in the Materials Palette to Color

7. Change the Foreground and Stroke Properties in the Materials Palette to Transparent or Null







8. Activate the Preset Shape Tool (P) Settings:
Corel_11_069
Retain style is not checked
Anti-alias is checked
Create as vector is checked
Line style: +Solid
Width: 2.00
All other settings at default

9. Starting a little below the top left corner of the canvas pull the shape out and down
If the graphic is rectangle pull into an ellipse - If the graphic is square pull into a circle

10. Objects>Align>Center in Canvas












11. Layers>Convert to Raster Layer

12. Selections>Select All

13. Selections>Float

14. Selections>Defloat

15. Selections>Modify>Contract by 1

16. Change the Foreground and Stroke Properties in the Materials Palette to Pattern Settings:
goldfoil or Silver-Foil Settings:
Angle: 0
Scale: 100

17. Activate the Flood Fill Tool (F)

18. Left click the selection to flood fill it with the foreground pattern

19. Selections>Modify>Contract by 3

20. Right click the selection to flood fill it with the background color

21. Selections>Modify>Contract by 1

22. Change the Background and Fill Properties in the Materials Palette to Pattern Settings:
"background pattern"
Angle: 0
Scale: 100

23. Layers>New Raster Layer

24. Right click the canvas to flood fill it with the background pattern

25. Adjust>Blur>Gaussian Blur Settings set to 3%

26. Effects>Plugins>Alien Skin Eye Candy 5 - Textures Settings:

27. Layers>Merge>Merge Down

28. Selections>Modify>Contract by 5

29. Change the Background and Fill Properties in the Materials Palette to Color

33. Selections>Modify>Contract by 2

4. Select the border

If you have trouble seeing the borders use the scroll feature of your mouse to zoom in on it
or
use PSP's built in zoom function under View
or
Selections>Select All
Selections>Modify>Contract by 2
Selections>Invert

6. Left click to the selection to flood fill it with the foreground pattern
